The Fragments

For most, if not all of the paintings in Le Poisson et Les Fleurs series, I am doing a companion painting. A glimpse of a small portion of the paintings, a fragment to a larger view.

The Goldfish in the Orange Poppies
This fragment will be done on a much deeper blue too see how that feels. It also is nice to have had a practice of the subject so I am confidently painting the larger piece. (It is like driving somewhere new, you have no idea how to get there but once you drive it you always know how to get there. Just like that.)

I will also be able to try different colors and techniques before committing to the main canvas.

I laid the board on the canvas, it is not part of the paintings. This fragment is going to focus on the tail of the betta fish and the two butterfly fish. So much detail.
I will be able to perfect the tail in the fragment before I paint it in the larger painting.

This one will have a definite mood change between the two.

The I Hate Mary Club is deliberately muddy for the mood and dred of it.

This fragment will focus on the main fish character upper right, the Mary fish.

These will pair nicely along side the large paintings as they will serve as a more personal close up view of details you might have missed. I can also include details not in the larger piece in the experimentation of painting them. If that makes sense. Anyway, that is the process for this series.
